The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has criticized recent remarks by India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, labeling them as provocative and loaded with implications. The criticism came from BNP’s senior joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, during a press interaction on Friday afternoon in Rampura, Dhaka.
According to Rizvi, during a meeting with India’s military commanders, Singh remarked on the necessity of being prepared for war to establish peace, a statement Rizvi deems normal concerning national defense. However, Rizvi expressed concerns over Singh’s mention of various global conflicts, including those in Russia, Ukraine, and Hamas, alongside the situation in Bangladesh, which Rizvi argues misrepresents the peaceful political changeover in the country.
“The inclusion of Bangladesh in such a context by Rajnath Singh is both suggestive and provocative. It creates unnecessary alarm and speculation about Bangladesh’s internal affairs, which are peaceful and a matter of our sovereignty,” Rizvi stated.
He further highlighted the BNP’s perspective on the recent political changes in Bangladesh, describing them as the culmination of a century’s greatest mass movement against tyranny, not an armed conflict. Rizvi warned that such statements from foreign dignitaries could mislead international observers about the nature of political shifts in Bangladesh.
The senior BNP leader also accused the ousted government of corruption and exploiting the working class, specifically garment workers, in efforts to destabilize the country. He called for vigilance among the citizens against what he described as deep-rooted conspiracies aimed at causing societal unrest.
“Such statements by foreign leaders need to be viewed with caution, and the populace must remain aware of the underlying intentions that could threaten our national stability,” added Rizvi
