Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday urged those who allegedly attacked the party’s female activists in recent incidents to “seek forgiveness,” warning that any repeat would be met with firm resistance. He was speaking at a women’s rally at the Manipur Girls’ High School ground in Mirpur.

Calling women’s dignity “more precious than our lives,” Rahman said the party would not “sit idle” if further assaults occur. He framed the choice as twofold: “change and respect for mothers,” or be ready to take responsibility for the consequences.

Outlining gender-focused pledges, Rahman promised separate bus services for women in major cities and workplace facilities such as baby corners, breastfeeding rooms, and day-care. He defended a proposal to allow mothers of young children a five-hour workday, arguing it would reduce the number of women forced to quit jobs for caregiving. The state, he said, should cover any productivity gap: “Mothers are the foundation of the state; leaving them out is unimaginable.”

Jamaat leaders Mobarak Hossain and former Islami Chhatra Shibir president Zahidul Islam also attended the rally.
