Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami announced on Sunday that the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) led by Col (retd) Oli Ahmed have joined its election understanding, enlarging the seat-sharing bloc to 10 parties.
At an urgent press conference at the National Press Club, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said the new partners joined an eight-party framework that had already been coordinating positions and candidates. He added that talks on constituency adjustments had progressed and that other groups had shown interest, though further additions were “not possible at the moment.”
The original talks began after the mass uprising with six parties—Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party and the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA)—to field single candidates on a seat-sharing basis. Bangladesh Development Party later joined, bringing the tally to eight before today’s inclusion of the NCP and LDP.
