Bangladeshi artist Suborna Morsheada is currently exhibiting her installation artwork Against All Odds – The Korail Chronicles at the prestigious Grand Palais in Paris as part of the 2025 Révélations International Fine Craft and Creation Biennial. The event, which celebrates global craftsmanship and innovation, features over 400 artists and designers from around the world and was inaugurated on May 21 by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Curated and led by Suborna Morsheada and supported by the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation, the artwork is a striking visual commentary on resilience and community spirit. It was developed in collaboration with co-artist Md Sajedul Haque and seven other supporting artists. The installation is constructed entirely from recycled materials sourced from Dhaka’s Korail slum — including metal scraps, jute, plastic packaging, and textile remnants — and is a powerful testament to the ingenuity and perseverance of marginalized communities.
The installation seeks to reimagine Korail not merely as a site of poverty and neglect, but as a vibrant space of creativity, innovation, and human dignity. Through this artwork, Morsheada challenges prevailing stereotypes and encourages viewers to find beauty in the overlooked and forgotten corners of society.
Against All Odds – The Korail Chronicles transforms discarded materials into meaningful artistic expressions, conveying stories of survival, imagination, and hope. The work highlights how spaces often deemed as peripheral can, in fact, be central to cultural identity and creative strength.
The five-day biennial will conclude on May 25, offering a rare international platform for artists like Morsheada to share narratives rooted in local experiences with a global audience.
