A significant legal case has been lodged involving nearly a decade-old incident where an alleged attempt was made on the life of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The case includes 50 defendants, notable among them are actor Zayed Khan, presenter Shahriar Nazim Joy, and actor Saju Khadem.
The case was filed on Sunday by Shahriar Iman at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, presided over by Magistrate Zaki Al Farabi. After hearing the plaintiff’s statement, the court instructed that it be recorded as a complaint at the Motijheel police station.
The incident dates back to April 20, 2015, when an orchestrated attack reportedly targeted Khaleda Zia’s convoy near Fakirapool intersection in Dhaka during an election campaign. The assault led to significant damage, including the destruction of 12 to 14 vehicles in the convoy and setting four motorcycles on fire. Several BNP leaders and workers, along with Zia’s security personnel, were injured during the attack.
Other prominent defendants in the case include members of the ruling Awami League’s central committee such as Sheikh Selim, Sheikh Helal, Colonel (Retd.) Faruk Khan, Fazle Noor Taposh, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Said Khokon, as well as leaders from the Workers Party and JSD like Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haq Inu.
This case marks a critical point in Bangladesh’s political and judicial landscape, highlighting ongoing tensions between major political parties and raising questions about the safety and security of political figures.
