Mel C has said she feels more confident than ever in her 50s, explaining that she is now comfortable wearing the most revealing outfits of her career as she embraces both her body and her long-standing “Sporty Spice” identity.
Speaking on BBC’s Woman’s Hour, the singer said she had spent years trying to distance herself from the Sporty Spice image that made her famous with the Spice Girls, but has now decided to fully accept it. She said fitness has always been a major part of her life, yet she had never previously felt confident enough to show her body in the way she does now.
The 52-year-old artist linked that renewed confidence to her upcoming album Sweat, whose visuals feature her in bold, body-conscious styling. She said she wanted to capture that image of herself now, while also being honest about the work behind it.
Mel C explained that achieving the look for the shoot took focused preparation, including two weeks of careful nutrition and workouts tailored specifically for the album campaign. She stressed that such an appearance is not something she maintains every day, and said it was important to be transparent about that reality.
She also warned about the pressure created by social media, saying platforms such as Instagram can promote unrealistic and sometimes unhealthy standards of perfection. In her view, it is important for public figures to acknowledge that polished images are often temporary and carefully prepared, rather than everyday reality.
Her comments come amid broader discussions about body image among former Spice Girls members. Mel C’s remarks present a message of confidence, honesty, and self-acceptance, as she enters a new chapter in her career with a stronger sense of identity and comfort in her own skin.
