Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has inaugurated two air-conditioned buses built in its own facilities, marking a push toward domestic assembly and reduced reliance on imports. The launch took place at the Integrated Central Repair Workshop in Gazipur, with chief guest Sheikh Moin Uddin—Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Road Transport and Bridges portfolio—calling the debut “a symbol of capability,” and urging BRTC to lead discipline and modernization across the road network.

Special guest Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Haque said the two coaches are “only the beginning,” encouraging engineering excellence and expansion as a “new era” for the state operator. Presiding over the event, Abdul Latif Mollah stressed that BRTC is “a full public service institution,” citing in-house training and workshop capacity that enabled the build.

BRTC noted that real-time fleet oversight is now live via a Vehicle Tracking System and a central control room, helping contain costs and keep an aging fleet operational. To accelerate renewal, procurement of 340 advanced buses from South Korea is in the final stages, with additional trucks and coasters planned. Looking ahead, officials said the goal is not only to assemble and maintain BRTC’s own vehicles but to develop capability to assemble buses for external operators as well. Senior officials from the Road Transport and Highways Division and BRTC’s field leadership attended the ceremony.
