Ms Alisha Pradhan—renowned social entrepreneur, media leader, and a steadfast voice for women’s empowerment—shared the following tribute:

‘Beyond party lines and political affiliations, I have always seen her as a guardian figure in our modern history—someone whose life was inseparable from the trials, transitions, and turbulence of the republic itself. As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, she did more than hold office; she reshaped the political imagination of the nation and carved space for women at the very summit of power, leaving a lasting imprint on our collective journey.

Today, Bangladesh does not simply lose a former leader. We pause to reckon with the passing of an era, to reflect on a legacy, and to acknowledge the responsibility that now rests upon our present and future. Her contributions to the nation’s development and its democratic narrative will remain etched in memory, even as the country moves forward through uncertainty.

I often think of her remarkable evolution—from a quiet, reserved wife of a military man to a formidable force in democratic politics, leading the nation both in power and in opposition. She carried an undeniable aura. At times, I felt her leadership was almost overshadowed by her cosmic presence and striking grace—but history will remember that behind the beauty stood resolve, resilience, and an unwavering will to lead.’”
