BNP’s acting chairperson Tarique Rahman on Sunday sat down for consultations with senior party leaders at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan—his first visit to the complex since it was established following the 1/11 political upheaval.
Rahman’s motorcade entered the compound at 1:40 p.m. after he departed from his residence on Gulshan Avenue, according to the party’s press wing. Upon arrival, he was greeted with flowers by Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, along with Chairperson’s Office officials and members of the BNP Media Cell.
After exchanging greetings, Rahman proceeded to the second floor and took his seat in the room designated for him, where he held a views-exchange meeting with the Standing Committee. Senior party figures and advisers, including Mahadi Amin and Zia Uddin Haider, as well as media cell members, were present.
BNP officials said a separate room has also been prepared for Rahman at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan—on the second floor adjacent to the chairperson’s chamber—signaling his plan to operate from both organizational hubs in the days ahead.
Rahman returned to Bangladesh on December 25 after 17 years abroad. Since landing in Dhaka, he has addressed a mass reception in Purbachal, paid respects at the tomb of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, and laid wreaths at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. He also visited the graves of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the slain convener of Inqilab Mancha.
On Saturday, Rahman completed voter registration and national ID formalities at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon, where he provided biometric data including fingerprints and iris scans, Election Commission officials confirmed.
Party insiders said Sunday’s Gulshan meeting focused on organizational consolidation, coordination between the Gulshan and Naya Paltan offices, and preparations for the upcoming national election. Further internal briefings are expected in the coming days.
