The government has granted approval for a new private university named ‘Grameen University,’ which will be established in the capital, Dhaka.

On Monday, the Ministry of Education issued an official approval letter to the university’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Md. Ashraful Hasan. The university has received temporary approval with 22 conditions for its establishment and operation.

With this approval, the total number of approved private universities in Bangladesh now stands at 116, although some are not yet operational.

The conditions set for Grameen University include a temporary approval period of seven years, compliance with all provisions and conditions of the Private University Act, 2010, and the requirement for a minimum of 25,000 square feet of owned or rented space. Additionally, the university must have at least three faculties with a minimum of six departments under them. It must also maintain a reserve fund of at least 15 million BDT in any scheduled bank.

The approval of Grameen University is expected to expand higher education opportunities in Bangladesh, contributing to the growing demand for quality private universities in the country.
