United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Bangladesh for a four-day official visit. His plane landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday afternoon, where he was received by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.
During his visit, Guterres will travel to Cox’s Bazar on Friday to visit the Rohingya refugee camps. As part of his itinerary, he will join an iftar with 100,000 Rohingya refugees, demonstrating solidarity with the displaced community. Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus is also expected to be present at the event.
The Secretary-General’s visit aims to highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis faced by the Rohingya and draw global attention to their plight. Through this engagement, he seeks to reinforce international efforts to address the escalating crisis and ensure sustained support for the refugees.
