Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team captain, Nigar Sultana Jyoti, expressed her determination to make this World Cup a memorable one. During an ICC photo session, where she received a cap for being in the year’s best team, Jyoti shared her emotions and aspirations.

Despite previous World Cups where Bangladesh didn’t perform notably except in 2014, Jyoti emphasized the importance of this year’s tournament. “It’s very important for the whole team because we haven’t done much in previous World Cups apart from in 2014. We want this World Cup to be memorable,” she stated.

Currently in the United Arab Emirates, the team is set to face Scotland in their opening match on Thursday. Bangladesh, having never lost to Scotland in their four encounters so far, is optimistic about breaking their winless streak in World Cup matches since 2014.

In an audio message sent by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Jyoti said, “It’s frustrating not to have won a match in previous World Cups, but I believe this time we will overcome this sorrow.”

The team, buoyed by their recent warm-up match win against Pakistan, is in good spirits and shape, according to Jyoti. “The way our team has played recently and the support each player has shown on the field has been tremendous,” she remarked.

The match against Scotland is particularly significant for Jyoti as it marks her 100th T20 career game. “Playing my 100th match feels amazing, almost like I just started my career. I am delighted and it will be even more memorable if I can contribute to a win for Bangladesh,” Jyoti added.

Head coach, Hasan Tilakaratne, also highlighted the importance of this milestone for both Jyoti and the team, hoping for a positive outcome that will resonate with the entire nation.
