During a courtesy visit with Palestinian Ambassador Yousuf Ramadan on Tuesday at the state guesthouse Jamuna, Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, reaffirmed Bangladesh’s steadfast support for the state of Palestine and its people.
The meeting, which was held to foster mutual relations and discuss global support for Palestine, addressed various issues, including the ongoing genocide in Gaza and tensions in the Middle East. Professor Yunus expressed hope for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.
Ambassador Ramadan praised the timeliness and necessity of Professor Yunus’s statements at the United Nations, highlighting their importance to the Palestinian cause. He noted that approximately 60 Palestinian doctors, educated in Bangladesh, are currently serving in Gaza, with over two hundred more Palestinian students awaiting higher education opportunities in Bangladesh.
In his speech at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 27, Professor Yunus called for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and urged world leaders to prosecute those responsible for crimes against humanity in the region. He stressed that the situation in Gaza continues despite global concern and condemnation and that the lives of Palestinian people are not expendable.
Professor Yunus appealed to the international community, including the United Nations, to work sincerely towards a two-state solution to ensure a lasting peace in the Middle East. He emphasized the need to protect Palestinian civilians, especially women and children, from brutality and to pursue a comprehensive ceasefire immediately.
