The Amal Foundation, a prominent humanitarian organization based in Dhaka, inaugurated its week-long event series titled “The Edge of Hope” at the British Council on June 20th, coinciding with World Refugee Day. The event kicked off with an opening ceremony attended by distinguished guests, photographers, and human rights advocates, all gathered to shed light on the plight of refugees worldwide.

The evening commenced at 5:00 PM and lasted until 7:30 PM, featuring a blend of visual storytelling, inspiring speeches, and engaging discussions that emphasized the global responsibility to support and uplift refugees. Renowned photographers Jim McFarlane from Australia and Anthony Dawton from London shared their powerful images and the stories behind them, capturing the resilience and hope of refugees, including those from the Rohingya community and climate refugees in Bangladesh.
Anthony Dawton expressed his gratitude for the opportunity provided by the Amal Foundation, stating, “I am grateful to Amal for allowing us to tell the story of these displaced people. My special thanks go to Esrat for making this day possible.”

The Director of Programmes at the British Council praised the initiative, commenting, “The ‘Edge of Hope’ photography exhibition is commendable. Through the lens of esteemed photographers, the exhibition vividly portrays the life stories of refugees. We welcome everyone to join us at the exhibition and experience this compelling journey firsthand.”
Esrat Karim, Founder and Director of the Amal Foundation, highlighted the positive aspects of the refugee communities showcased in the exhibition. “Most of the time, people show the struggles of the displaced communities, but this exhibition will be an example that this community has hope and resilience,” she said. Karim extended her thanks to the photographers for capturing such powerful images that spread positivity and inspire advocacy for sustainable change in the lives of displaced communities.
The opening ceremony set the tone for a week filled with dynamic workshops, thought-provoking panel discussions, and vibrant cultural showcases. These events are designed to deepen the understanding of the refugee experience and ignite meaningful change.
