As of this morning at 10 o’clock, Dhaka ranks eighth among 100 cities globally in air pollution. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Dhaka’s score stands at 156, categorizing the air quality as “unhealthy”. Yesterday, Dhaka’s score was 154.
Since the morning, the capital has been engulfed in thick smog, exacerbated by intense heat. This unhealthy air quality adds to the discomfort already caused by the scorching weather. Yesterday evening, there was rainfall, which slightly reduced the temperature. However, today, the heat has returned with intensity.
The situation of air pollution is regularly monitored by the Switzerland-based organization IQAir. They provide real-time data on air quality, alerting people about whether the air in a specific city is clean or polluted.
Today, Lahore in Pakistan tops the list of cities with the worst air pollution, according to IQAir’s index, with a score of 240. Cairo, Egypt, follows closely behind in second place with a score of 194.
