Following Azerbaijan’s attack and directive for the militants in Nagorno-Karabakh to disarm, nearly all ethnic Armenians have left the region, as stated by the Armenian government. The press secretary to Armenia’s prime minister reported that approximately 100,417 people had arrived in Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh, which previously had a population of about 120,000. This mass departure, constituting over 80% of Nagorno-Karabakh’s population, has raised questions about Azerbaijan’s plans for the enclave. Despite Azerbaijan pledging to respect the rights of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, most are leaving due to concerns regarding their treatment and the preservation of their language, religion, and culture under Azerbaijani authorities.
