Championing a future of inclusivity and acceptance, Deshi Ballers, a pioneering female-led sports development group, has embarked on a remarkable journey to transform the sports landscape of Bangladesh. On July 22, in partnership with Pathchola Bangladesh, Deshi Ballers unveiled “Sports Without Labels,” a groundbreaking initiative poised to redefine the norms of sports by welcoming women with diverse gender identities into the fold.

In a society often divided by boundaries, “Sports Without Labels” aims to erase labels and extend an open invitation to individuals of all gender identities to actively participate in sports and fitness events. The initiative’s underlying mission is to create a nurturing environment where everyone can showcase their talents, skills, and unwavering passion for the game.

The collaboration between Deshi Ballers and Pathchola Bangladesh signifies a united front against prejudice, exclusion, and stereotypes within the realm of sports. As part of this initiative, Deshi Ballers is committed to introducing sports programs customized to cater to the unique needs and aspirations of individuals, transcending conventional norms.

The roots of the “Sports Without Labels” initiative run deep within the personal experiences of Deshi Ballers Co-Founder, Ashreen Mridha. Inspired by her mother’s compassion and dedication, Ashreen recounts encounters with a transgender woman who faced societal discrimination despite her capabilities. This profound interaction planted the seed of change, motivating Ashreen to create a platform where transgender individuals can excel in sports, an arena often untouched by diversity.

For Manisha Meem Nipun, a transgender woman and a founding member of Pathchola Bangladesh, the initiative strikes a resonant chord. Experiences of exclusion from sports during her formative years drove Manisha to join hands with Deshi Ballers. She shares, “Now, at the age of 25, I have a platform that empowers my community’s voice. After enduring 25 years of prejudice, I finally have the chance to make meaningful contributions and find ways to give the upcoming generation the potential to seize the opportunities that were denied to us.”

“Deshi Ballers recognized the need for action,” affirms Ashreen. The initiative serves as a stepping stone, a haven for basketball enthusiasts with a broader vision for health and fitness inclusivity. Both Ashreen and Manisha echo the sentiment that this initiative transcends mere events, aiming for genuine engagement and transformative impact.

In a world shackled by labels, Deshi Ballers envisions a future where gender limitations no longer dictate the playground. With “Sports Without Labels,” they’ve taken a resolute step towards a more inclusive and accepting sporting community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their gender identity, can stand tall and play their hearts out.

As the “Sports Without Labels” initiative ushers in a new era of sports in Bangladesh, it serves as a beacon of hope, uniting individuals across the gender spectrum under the banner of athleticism and camaraderie.
