The Returning Officer for Brahmanbaria-2 has summoned independent candidate Barrister Rumeen Farhana to appear on Thursday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. to explain allegations that she showed a raised finger and issued threats to an Executive Magistrate who attempted to halt an allegedly unlawful campaign rally.

In a notice issued Sunday (January 18), Returning Officer Sharmin Akter Jahan wrote that on Saturday, January 17 (around 4–5 p.m.) Farhana held a political assembly of 400–500 people at Islampur, Noagaon Union, Sarail Upazila, using a large stage and sound system—actions the notice says violate the Political Parties and Candidates’ Code of Conduct 2025. When a mobile court moved to stop the event, the letter alleges Farhana behaved “discourteously,” made threats, and her supporters acted aggressively, creating a “mob” that obstructed judicial duties. The incident has circulated widely on social and mainstream media, the notice adds.

If Farhana fails to appear, the Returning Officer warned that legal measures may be taken in absentia. Copies of the notice were sent to the Election Commission Secretary and other relevant authorities. Farhana, expelled from the BNP, is contesting the seat as an independent. The 13th National Parliamentary Election is scheduled for February 12, 2026.
