The Nobel Foundation has reiterated that Nobel Prizes are strictly non-transferable and cannot be handed over or shared with anyone else, even in a symbolic sense. In a statement posted on social media Sunday, the Foundation said each award “applies solely to the named laureate,” underscoring its duty to safeguard the prestige and proper administration of the prizes.
Citing Alfred Nobel’s will, the Foundation emphasized that the prizes are conferred on those who have rendered “the greatest benefit to humankind,” and that only the authorities specified in the will are empowered to make the awards. It encouraged the public to consult guidance from the Norwegian Nobel Committee and other designated awarding bodies for further details on rules and procedures.
