The Assistant Returning Officer for Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail–Ashuganj and two unions of Bijoynagar), also the Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Abubakar Sarker, has asked authorities to take legal action against independent candidate Barrister Rumin Farhana, accusing her of violating the election code of conduct and of instigating a “mob” that obstructed a magistrate’s duties.
In a letter sent Saturday to the Election Inquiry & Judicial Committee and Senior Civil Judge Ashraful Islam, the official alleged that Farhana organized a large rally under a marquee in Islamabad village, Sarail, breaching campaign rules. The gathering was dispersed on the spot; a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Shahriya Hasan Khan fined Juel Mia Tk 40,000. The letter further claims Farhana made a threatening hand gesture toward the magistrate and, along with supporters including Juel Mia, acted aggressively—amounting to creating a “mob,” issuing threats, and hindering judicial work. A link to a circulating video clip was cited in the complaint.
Speaking Sunday at a views exchange in Kalikaicha, Sarail, Farhana urged the administration, police, election commission and government to remain neutral, warning—by invoking 5 August—that a repeat of that day’s unrest could occur anywhere if neutrality is absent. She denied showing a defiant gesture at officials, saying she merely demonstrated “like this” while describing allegations that the administration had been shown a “thumbs-up” from a rival’s rally.
Election authorities have not yet announced follow-up measures on the complaint.
