The interim government has appointed Omar Bin Hadi as Second Secretary at Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on a three-year contractual basis, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Public Administration’s Contract and Foreign Posting Wing on Thursday.
The appointment, signed “by order of the President” by Joint Secretary Abul Hayat Md. Rafiq, takes effect from the date of joining and requires Hadi to sever any employment or business affiliations with government, semi-government, or private entities. Other terms will be set out in a contract, the notification said, adding that the decision was taken in the public interest.
Omar Bin Hadi is the elder brother of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a prominent face of the July 2024 mass uprising and convener of the political-cultural platform Inquilab Mancha. Sharif Osman was shot in Dhaka’s Purana Paltan on December 12, 2025, and died in Singapore on December 18 following treatment. His funeral drew vast crowds at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban’s South Plaza on December 20, after which he was laid to rest near the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s mausoleum on the Dhaka University campus.
