A Dhaka court has granted bail to July Uprising activist Tahrima Jannat Suravi, according to an announcement Monday evening on the official Facebook page of the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement.
Movement president Rifat Rashid said police produced Suravi in court earlier in the day seeking remand, and a magistrate initially approved a two-day remand. Defense lawyers then filed a revision before the District Judge Court-1, coupled with an application for interim bail. The court, satisfied with the submission, approved bail.
Suravi was arrested on December 25 from her residence in Gopalpur Tekpara under Tongi East Police Station. Case documents allege that during the July–August protests, money was extracted from a businessman in phases by threatening to implicate him in murder cases connected to incidents in Gulshan and Badda. Police did not immediately comment on the court’s decision or the conditions of bail.
