The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches from India to another country, citing “serious” security concerns. Following an emergency meeting of its board on Sunday evening in Dhaka, the BCB also announced it will not send the national team to play fixtures in India under current conditions.

In a statement issued after the meeting, directors said they reviewed developments over the past 24 hours, the broader security climate surrounding the India–Sri Lanka co-hosted tournament, and advice from the Bangladesh government before reaching the decision. “Ensuring the safety of players, coaching staff, officials and all team personnel is paramount,” the board said, adding that it has already written to the ICC proposing that Bangladesh’s India-based matches be moved.

The BCB said it hopes for a prompt response from the ICC and stressed that its position reflects “strong doubts” about the team’s security in India at this time. Bangladesh last toured India in 2024.
