Bangladesh will again mark Victory Day without a parade this year, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Wednesday, adding that security agencies see no risk of sabotage or unrest around the celebrations or following the recent tribunal verdict in the Sheikh Hasina case.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat after a nationwide security coordination meeting for Victory Day 2025, the adviser said commemorations will proceed “as in previous years,” with more programs than before, but no parade—a continuation of last year’s approach when district and upazila student marches and displays were shelved and replaced by “Bijoy Mela” events.
Asked about an incident in which a journalist was reportedly taken from home by Detective Branch personnel without an arrest warrant, Chowdhury said he was not yet briefed and would respond after an inquiry.
Authorities said operational deployments and crowd-management plans are being finalized to ensure a safe, inclusive observance of Victory Day across the country.
