At least nine people have died in a devastating fire that broke out at a printing factory and adjacent chemical warehouse in the Shialbari area of Mirpur’s Rupnagar in Dhaka. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence received the alert at around 11:40 AM and quickly dispatched five units to the scene. Additional units later joined, bringing the total number of firefighting teams to 11. As of 4:00 PM, the blaze had not been fully brought under control.
Talha Bin Jasim, Acting Officer of the Fire Service Media Cell, confirmed the death toll to the media and warned that the number of casualties could rise further.
Three individuals—Md. Sohel Sardar (37), Md. Mamun (35), and Md. Suruzzaman—are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Doctors have reported that their conditions are not critical. Suruzzaman reportedly sustained 2% burns, while the other two suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire and the full extent of damage are still under investigation.
