The Apostolic Nunciature in Bangladesh hosted a grand celebration of the National Day of the Vatican City, also known as the Pope’s Feast, bringing together the ensemble of the diplomatic community in Dhaka, government dignitaries, religious leaders, and distinguished guests for an evening of cultural harmony, dialogue, and friendship.

The ceremony, held at the Apostolic Nunciature, began with the arrival of dignitaries to the sounds of traditional and classical music. Following the entrance of His Excellency the Apostolic Nuncio, the Guest of Honour His Eminence George Jacob Cardinal Koovakad, and the Chief Guest representing the Government of Bangladesh, the national anthems of Bangladesh and the Holy See were performed, setting a solemn and celebratory tone for the evening.

In his welcoming address, the Apostolic Nuncio underscored the significance of the Pope’s Feast and emphasized the longstanding bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the Vatican. He also highlighted the contributions of the Catholic Church to education, humanitarian service, and interfaith dialogue in Bangladesh.

The Guest of Honour, Cardinal Koovakad, offered reflections on the role of faith and cultural exchange in strengthening mutual respect and understanding, while the Chief Guest expressed appreciation for the Vatican’s continued partnership and support in Bangladesh’s journey toward peace, justice, and development.

The evening featured an official toast, led jointly by the Apostolic Nuncio, the Chief Guest, and the Guest of Honour, symbolizing the friendship and cooperation between the Vatican and Bangladesh. A cultural performance showcasing traditional Bangladeshi music and dance added color and vibrancy to the ceremony, underlining the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering goodwill.

A unique highlight of this year’s celebration was the art exhibition organized by HerNet Fine Arts, presented as a gesture of courtesy to the cultural exchange between Bangladesh and the Holy See. The exhibition featured brilliant artworks from Bangladeshi artists, celebrating heritage, creativity, and the spirit of unity through artistic expression. Guests were seen engaging with the artworks, appreciating the effort to bridge cultures through visual storytelling.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of gifts to the special guests and closing remarks from the Apostolic Nuncio, followed by a reception that featured a buffet of traditional Bangladeshi dishes. Diplomats, artists, and officials mingled freely, exchanging views in an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality.

Moderating the evening, Alisha Pradhan, Founder and General Secretary of HerNet Foundation, extended gratitude to the Embassy of the Holy See for hosting the celebration and for providing space for the art exhibition, which she described as “a pathway for cultural exchange, strengthening the ties between Bangladesh and the Vatican through dialogue, creativity, and shared values.”

The National Day of the Vatican City thus became not only a diplomatic celebration but also a moment of cultural enrichment — a meaningful reminder of the power of art, faith, and friendship in bringing communities and nations closer together.
