After stepping into politics, Dr. Tasnim Jara has faced allegations from certain groups attempting to portray her as an LGBTQ+ activist—claims she has strongly denied as entirely fabricated. In a post on her verified Facebook page, she refuted these accusations, calling them baseless.
Dr. Tasnim Jara, recently appointed as the Senior Joint Secretary of the newly formed National Citizens’ Party, has become the target of criticism on social media. Some individuals have been questioning her professional background and spreading false claims against her.
In her Facebook post, Dr. Jara stated, “Since joining politics, some people have been trying to label me as an LGBTQ+ activist, claiming that I work with BRAC on these issues. I want to clarify the truth so that you can distinguish between facts and fabricated stories.”
She explained that her collaboration with BRAC involved creating three awareness videos on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), which were posted on her Facebook page and YouTube channel over a year ago. “Millions have watched these videos, and thousands have commented on how beneficial they found them. Each video clearly displays BRAC’s name and logo—there is nothing hidden,” she emphasized.
Dr. Jara further provided details and links to the three videos:
- Understanding Irregular Menstruation: This video educates viewers on why menstrual cycles can vary and what actions to take if irregularities occur. She noted that many women worry about menstrual irregularities without knowing that such variations are normal. (Video link: Facebook)
- Concerns About Nocturnal Emissions: The second video addresses common misconceptions about nocturnal emissions and whether they affect physical health. (Video link: Facebook)
- Mental Health for Adolescents: The third video focuses on techniques to help teenagers cope with anxiety and stress. (Video link: Facebook)
Dr. Jara pointed out that comments under these videos reflect how much they have helped people. She criticized those distorting her work as LGBTQ+ activism, urging the public to analyze the motives and backgrounds of those spreading misinformation.
Additionally, she mentioned that her collaboration with BRAC was not limited to these videos. She has also worked on a hypertension control project and contributed to COVID-19 initiatives.
Addressing her critics, she reaffirmed her commitment to public health and education, stating that misleading narratives would not deter her from her mission.
