Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team began their three-match ODI series against Ireland with a commanding 154-run victory, marking their biggest win in terms of runs. Powered by an explosive batting performance, led by Sharmin Akhter’s 96 and Fargana Hoque’s 61, the team set a record total of 252/4—their highest in ODI cricket.
Playing at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Ireland struggled from the outset, with pacer Marufa Akhter claiming two early wickets in her first spell, leaving the visitors reeling at 10/2. Despite some resistance from opener Sarah Forbes, who scored 25, Ireland collapsed for just 98 runs in 28.5 overs. Nahida Akhter and Sultana Khatun both picked up three wickets each, while Marufa finished with two for 18 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s innings was anchored by Sharmin Akhter, who returned to ODI cricket after over 16 months. She smashed a rapid 96 off 89 balls, laced with 14 boundaries, narrowly missing out on a century. Supported by Fargana’s steady 61 and captain Nigar Sultana’s late 28-run cameo, Bangladesh surpassed their previous record score of 250 runs achieved against South Africa in 2023.
This win also surpassed their previous largest winning margin, a 119-run victory over South Africa. With a 1-0 lead in the series, the Bangladesh Women’s team looks poised for further dominance in the remaining matches.
