In an innovative move by the newly established interim government, students are being actively involved in the administration and oversight of all ministries. This decision was discussed at the first meeting of the advisory council held at the State Guest House Jamuna yesterday, led by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The integration of students into government operations is part of a broader initiative to ensure transparency and to harness the fresh perspectives that young people bring to the table. This initiative follows discussions on revoking certain provisions of the Cyber Security Act that were prone to misuse under previous administrations.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Md. Nahid Islam, advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, briefed the press after the meeting. Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud was also present, indicating a strong emphasis on engaging the younger generation in critical areas of governance.
During the meeting, the advisors discussed key issues related to law and order and economic matters, emphasizing the need for swift and efficient governance reforms. They expressed a collective desire to amend laws like the Cyber Security Act to prevent their misuse and ensure that police could operate without fear of legal repercussions.
Rizwana Hasan highlighted the strategy to involve student representatives from recent protests as ‘assistant advisors’ in various ministries, ensuring they have a direct role in monitoring and advising on government activities. This involvement aims to bridge the gap between the government and the populace, especially the youth, ensuring their voices are not only heard but also acted upon.
The interim government is also committed to fighting corruption and addressing grievances, including those of families affected by violence during the protests. Plans to reopen educational institutions quickly and safely were also discussed, reflecting a proactive approach to return to normalcy.
Dr. Yunus emphasized that the use of his image in advertisements or promotions is strictly prohibited, ensuring that the focus remains on governance and policy rather than personal publicity.
This initiative to involve students in governance not only aims to restore trust and accountability but also to rejuvenate the administrative processes of Bangladesh, promising a new era of inclusive and effective governance.
