A delegation from Dhaka University, including the Vice-Chancellor for Education, Professor Dr. Sittesh Chandra Bachar, has embarked on a trip to Finland to procure elevators for the university’s ongoing construction projects. The team, comprising four members, departed from Dhaka on Saturday, May 4.
The delegation also includes Professor Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Hasan Babu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr. ABM Taufiq Hasan from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET); and Javed Alam Mridha, Director of Planning and Development at the university.
As part of the pre-shipment inspection process, the group’s mission is to ensure the quality and specifications of 17 elevators intended for various buildings under construction at Dhaka University. This verification is crucial to ensure that the university receives the specified products without any discrepancies.
The expenses for this visit will not be borne by the university but by the contractor, Rangpur Metal Industries Limited (RMIL), as stipulated in the contract. RMIL is responsible for showcasing the elevators to the university representatives in Finland, after which the delegation will sign off on the purchase.
Dr. Bachar has been granted an 8-day leave from May 2 to May 9 for this purpose. According to a letter authorized by the registrar, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Education have approved this overseas trip under regulations issued in 2011 and a directive from 2022. During Dr. Bachar’s absence, Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal will serve as the acting Vice-Chancellor for Education.
This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure with quality equipment to foster a better educational environment.
