A mother who lost everything in the devastating fire at the Kalshi slum in Dhaka\u2019s Pallabi area has received a new place to stay along with her three children after a humanitarian response by volunteers and a development organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rajia Begum, whose husband reportedly disappeared a week before the fire, had been living under the ramp of the Kalshi flyover with her children after the blaze destroyed their rented home and all of their belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the publication of a report highlighting her situation, members of the Prothom Alo Bondhushava National Committee visited the area and coordinated emergency support efforts. With sponsorship from BRAC Microfinance, housing arrangements were made for Rajia\u2019s family and two other fire-affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative provided rented accommodation with advance payment for one month, benefiting a total of 16 people, including at least 10 children. Essential living items such as bedding and mosquito nets were also supplied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rajia Begum expressed relief after moving into the new shelter, saying her youngest child smiled upon entering the room for the first time since the fire. She said the family could finally sleep peacefully and begin trying to rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the emergency assistance, BRAC also arranged immediate dinner support for around 150 affected people and prepared aid packages containing essential daily necessities for hundreds of fire victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representatives from Bondhushava and BRAC said the effort reflects a commitment to standing beside disaster-affected families and ensuring they can continue living with dignity despite their hardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
