The funeral prayer of three-time former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia drew vast crowds on Wednesday afternoon, with hundreds of thousands gathering along Manik Mia Avenue and adjoining areas of the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The janaza<\/em> was held around 3:00 pm and led by Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, khatib of the national mosque Baitul Mukarram. Among those in attendance were Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, Khaleda Zia\u2019s son and BNP acting chair Tarique Rahman and family members, senior civil and military officials, foreign envoys and representatives, and leaders from across the political spectrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan offered brief remarks highlighting Khaleda Zia\u2019s political life and struggles. The turnout spilled far beyond the Parliament complex grounds, with people filling Manik Mia Avenue and stretching toward Bijoy Sarani, Karwan Bazar and Agargaon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Following the janaza<\/em>, Khaleda Zia is to be laid to rest with state honors beside her late husband, former president Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
