Witnesses said the blockade began around 3:00 p.m., when demonstrators placed bamboo across the carriageway. The sudden shutdown stranded hundreds of vehicles and triggered long tailbacks stretching through Signboard, Chittagong Road, Kanchpur and Sanarpar, leaving passengers and drivers stuck for hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Protesters alleged the killing was premeditated and criticized the lack of arrests of the \u201cmain perpetrators.\u201d \u201cWe don\u2019t want politics\u2014we want justice,\u201d said demonstrator Nirob Raihan, warning of tougher actions if swift prosecution does not follow. Another participant, Alomgir Hossain, echoed the call for \u201cexemplary punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police and other law-enforcement personnel arrived on the scene to negotiate with the crowd. \u201cWe are taking necessary steps to normalize the situation and are in talks with the protesters,\u201d said Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Barik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
