Kit McConnell, the IOC\u2019s Director of Sports, stated, \u201cThrough these mixed events, we aim to set a new standard for gender equality. Men and women will now stand side by side, wearing the same colors and competing as one team for their country. While mixed-team formats are relatively rare in global golf and gymnastics competitions, there are notable precedents. In golf, the Grant Thornton Invitational is a prominent example where male and female players from the PGA and LPGA tours form teams to compete together. Sixteen teams typically participate in that tournament. Similarly, in gymnastics, the DTB Pokal Cup has featured male and female gymnasts competing side by side for their teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In light of the new Olympic format, McConnell also confirmed that the IOC has instructed the International Gymnastics Federation to develop and submit a new competition framework by May 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
