Renowned journalists Shyamal Dutta and Mozammel Babu have been detained by local authorities in Mymensingh’s Dhobaura police station following their arrest by local villagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred early on Monday, September 16, around 6 AM, when the two journalists were traveling near the South Maijpara and Porakandulia border area. The locals detained them and handed them over to the Dhobaura police, confirming the arrest, according to Dhobaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Chan Mia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two journalists, along with senior reporter Mahbubur Rahman from Ekattor Television and their driver Selim, were traveling in a private car toward the border when the villagers intercepted them. The vehicle was also seized by the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Azizul Islam confirmed that all four individuals are currently in police custody, with legal proceedings underway. He added that cases are filed against them, and appropriate action will be taken based on those charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shyamal Dutta is the editor of the daily newspaper Bhorer Kagoj<\/strong> and a former General Secretary of the National Press Club. Mozammel Babu, on the other hand, served as the Managing Director of Ekattor Television<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is not the first time Shyamal Dutta has faced legal issues. On August 6, 2024, he was stopped by immigration authorities while attempting to leave for India with his family through the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost in Brahmanbaria. At the time, the Special Branch of police informed the immigration officers that a travel ban had been placed on Dutta, preventing him from leaving the country.
