The Information Advisor of the interim government, Md. Nahid Islam, has announced plans to revamp the media landscape in Bangladesh through the formation of a reform commission. He made this statement on Friday during a discussion at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Nahid Islam emphasized that the policies will be crafted to ensure media freedom while keeping stakeholders involved in the decision-making process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding allegations related to various government projects, the Information Advisor revealed that a review committee has been formed to investigate any corruption allegations. The committees under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have been dissolved and are in the process of being restructured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In reference to the upcoming commemoration of martyrs, Nahid Islam mentioned that once the list of the deceased and injured is finalized, a memorial event will be organized. So far, a list of 728 martyrs has been provided by the Ministry of Health, and efforts are underway to contact their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The number of injured individuals has reached 20,263, and the verification process is ongoing. District commissioners have been instructed to finalize the list by this Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for the budget for the memorial event, Nahid Islam stated that five crore taka has been allocated, which will be used to cover most expenses, including bringing the families of the deceased to Dhaka and providing accommodations for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to journalists’ queries about various policies, the Information Advisor clarified that the sections facing criticism will be reviewed and amended if necessary, or the entire law could be repealed. He stressed that no law should conflict with the media’s freedom of expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing administrative concerns, Nahid Islam acknowledged that there is a sense of stagnation in the administration and noted resistance from various sectors. Given the post-coup environment, issues such as protests and demands have arisen.
