Traditionally, marriages are arranged by parents, and public interactions between unmarried men and women are discouraged.

The event in Lahore, attended by around 100 people, was a platform for potential brides and grooms to meet and engage in conversation, an approach that is gaining popularity among the more progressive sections of society. Muzz, which describes itself as a platform guided by Muslim values, provides a setting where participants can even choose to blur their profile pictures, maintaining modesty and decorum.

Participants at the event could bring their parents along for meetings, blending modern dating practices with traditional respect for family involvement. Despite facing online criticism, the app continues to facilitate such gatherings, providing a safe space for singles to meet potential partners under respectful conditions.

Aimen, a 31-year-old Pakistani woman who preferred not to reveal her full identity, mentioned that she was inspired to use the app on the recommendation of her brother in the United States. “I saw an advertisement for this event while using the app and thought, why not meet people directly rather than just online?” she shared with Reuters.

Moaz, a 27-year-old user of the app, expressed his experiences, saying, “While I find potential matches, their expectations often include early family involvement, which I am hesitant about.
