DHAKA, July 29, 2024 – Former State Minister for Home Affairs, Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, visited the Detective Branch (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Minto Road to meet with the coordinators of the quota reform movement who are currently under custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the afternoon of July 29, Sohel Taj entered the DB office and later addressed the media outside the premises. He emphasized the irreplaceable value of human lives over material losses. “We can recover the assets lost during the quota movement protests since they were financed by public funds. However, lives lost cannot be compared to any material asset,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing his reasons for the visit, Sohel Taj mentioned, “Driven by my conscience and as a citizen, I felt compelled to meet with the coordinators. Every citizen has a right to this country, and I am here to ensure that not another bullet harms our students.” He urged the law enforcement agencies to ensure that each loss of life is duly investigated and justice is served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the students involved in the movement, he said, “This country belongs to you, and you must not lose hope. It is always necessary to protest against injustice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked if the six coordinators would be released, Sohel Taj shared that he discussed the matter with the Additional Police Commissioner, Mohammad Harun Or Rashid. “He informed me that they would be released upon receiving permission from higher authorities,” Sohel Taj noted, indicating potential progress towards the release of the detained students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
