In a distressing incident in Rajbari District, a farmer named Madhu Biswas, aged 48, was severely injured after being bitten by a Russell’s viper while harvesting peanuts in the Padma River char area. The incident occurred yesterday morning in the Habaspur Union of the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the snake attack, fellow farmers killed the viper and rushed Biswas along with the dead snake to the Upazila Health Complex for immediate medical attention. Later that evening, due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to the Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sharmin Ahmed Tithi, the Health and Family Planning Officer of Pangsha Upazila, confirmed the species of the snake. “After examining the snake brought along with the victim, we confirmed it was a Russell\u2019s viper. Immediate antivenom treatment was administered, and he was in a stable condition. We planned to keep him under observation for 72 hours, but his family decided to move him to a better-equipped facility in Faridpur,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russell’s viper is known for its potent venom, which can cause severe pain, swelling, and potentially life-threatening coagulation disorders. This case highlights the critical need for immediate and appropriate medical response in rural areas where such snake bites are more common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Pangsha, Muhammad Jafar Sadik Chowdhury, emphasized the gravity of the situation. “Once it was confirmed that the farmer was bitten by a Russell\u2019s viper, all necessary treatments were promptly provided. We are keeping a constant check on his health status,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
