Pathao, one of Bangladesh’s leading digital services companies, is taking a bold step into the world of finance as it applies for a license to establish Pathao Digital Bank. This strategic move aims to extend banking services to its users through a digital banking platform, marking a significant expansion of Pathao’s offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a landscape where several prominent financial institutions have expressed interest in establishing digital banks, Pathao’s entry into this sphere underscores the growing demand for innovative and accessible financial services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Pathao is far more than a brand, or a suite of products \u2014 it is a lifestyle. Just as it has radically transformed urban transportation and the gig economy in Bangladesh, Pathao Digital Bank will reshape banking in Bangladesh,” commented Fahim Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Pathao. He further emphasized that the establishment of Pathao Digital Bank holds the potential to catalyze a crucial phase of economic growth in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed Pathao Digital Bank emerges as a logical progression of the company’s overarching mission to enrich the lives of its extensive user base. With approximately 10 million young consumers and half a million drivers, delivery agents, and small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, Pathao envisions the digital bank as a tool to foster financial empowerment and convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, paved the way for this move by inviting applications for setting up digital banks earlier in the year. It outlined the prerequisites for interested investors, including a minimum paid-up capital of Tk 125 crore (Bangladeshi Taka) and the stipulation that the capital must be sourced from sponsors. Additionally, the new entity must function as a public limited company, with each sponsor holding a minimum stake of Tk 50 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
