On October 20, an exciting new chapter in Bangladesh’s urban transportation will unfold as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the eagerly awaited Agargaon-Motijheel section of the metro rail system. The announcement was made by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader during a press briefing at the Secretariat today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the successful launch of the Uttara-Agargaon section of the country’s first metro-rail line, also known as MRT Line-6, in December of the previous year, anticipation has been building for the next phase of this transformative project. The upcoming Agargaon-Motijheel section is expected to significantly enhance the connectivity and convenience of daily commuters in Dhaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the driving factors behind the increased demand for the Agargaon-Motijheel route is the fact that it traverses a major catchment area, stretching from Mirpur to Motijheel. This strategic route alignment is poised to benefit a substantial number of residents and workers along the corridor, promising faster and more efficient travel options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The metro rail project is part of the government’s ambitious efforts to modernize and streamline urban transportation in Dhaka. This fast-track initiative involves the construction of a 21.26km elevated metro line that will connect Uttara to Kamalapur, with a total budget of Tk 33,472 crore.
